v1.1.0 Changelog

As promised, the player now has access to new tools, the Scythe and the Watering Can!

Changelog

The tool descriptions in the last devlog more or less match with their current implementation. Those were copied from there and lightly edited.

  • Added a "tools" inventory. Players can purchase and upgrade tools to make certain tasks easier.
  • New tool: Scythe. Harvests all seeds and grown flowers within a certain range. Players do not start the game with this tool; it must be purchased. Players can also purchase upgrades to increase the maximum range.
  • Reworked how flowers grow. Placing seeds no longer produces sprouts and instead puts a seed item on the map, in same way that flower breeding does. Seeds must be watered before they can turn into sprouts, and sprouts must be watered before they can turn into full-grown flowers.
  • New tool: Watering Can. Waters all seeds and sprouts within a certain range. Players start with a basic watering can and can purchase upgrades to increase its maximum range.

Known Issues

  • There's still lots of clicking, unfortunately. I'm trying to find a good balance between sufficient interactivity and, well, too much clicking.
  • I have not yet balanced tool costs, so they might be a little weird. I'm saving this for after I implement some of the other money sinks discussed below, since I don't think trying to balance tools independently of them will give good results in the long run.

Potential Future Plans

  • Show credits in-game. The attached credits file is a JSON file for a reason -- I wanted to make it easier to import into the game. I'm still working on the exact format for that, so it may be a while before it's implemented.
  • Decor! This was one of my stretch goals for the game jam that I didn't get around to due to lack of time/artistic inspiration. I'd like to loop back around to this before I move on from this game. Most of these would be purely cosmetic, but some might have special effects. (If nothing else, sprinklers might be nice...)
  • Less planting area to start, but can purchase larger area. This would give the player more goals and a stronger sense of progression.
